When we think of August in Sardinia and picture its beaches, we are sure the last thing that comes to mind is a paradise landscape with no one around. We are used to seeing extremely crowded coastlines, and imagining an August without crowds and beaches with few people almost seems impossible.
Today we want to surprise you and talk about lesser-known beaches, less popular and therefore much more peaceful.
But before we begin, remember that when visiting the island it is important to choose the right vehicle based on the destinations you want to explore. Some beaches are harder to reach and you will need a means of transport to get there, whether by car or scooter makes little difference. What really matters is making sure in advance that you have booked all the services you need and that they are suitable for the type of trip you are planning.
Which beaches are the most peaceful?
Among the beaches with fewer visitors, we mainly find very large stretches of sand where it is easier to avoid overcrowding or the risk of not finding space. One example is Piscinas, less well known than others but incredibly beautiful. Many tourists are familiar with it thanks to the highest golden sand dunes in Europe.
Another equally wide beach, considered one of the most beautiful along the Costa Verde, is Torre dei Corsari, also characterized by fine sand dunes.
Of the same type, you will also find San Nicolò, a long and expansive beach that stretches from Portixeddu all the way to the town of Buggerru, located beyond the cliffs.
These beaches are very popular among water sports enthusiasts, as this stretch of coast is often windy, creating high waves and plenty of fun. When the sea is very rough, however, special attention is required, as the currents that form can be dangerous and should not be underestimated.
Little-known and less crowded beaches
If you are looking for crystal-clear water in shades of emerald green and changing light blue, with light and fine sand, the beaches of Gonnesa are perfect for you. Among these, we recommend:
- Fontanamare Beach;
- Spiaggia di Mezzo, also known as Plagemesu;
- Punta S’Arena;
- Porto Paglia.
Among the least known locations of all is the Murtas Beach. Located within the Quirra military training area, in the municipality of Villaputzu, this area was once off-limits to the public and has only been accessible since 2016, during the months between June and September. These restrictions have helped keep the beach away from the spotlight and accessible only to those who truly know about it.
As you may have noticed, the beaches we have mentioned are mainly located along the south-western coast of the island. The reason is that, compared to other areas, it is still possible here to enjoy the sea without the crowds that characterize more famous beaches.
We also want to surprise you by suggesting a beach in the Orosei area: the Bidderosa Oasis, on the eastern coast of the island. This is a limited-access natural park covering 860 hectares, home to five stunning coves and a dense forest of Aleppo pines, junipers and holm oaks.
Are you ready to explore the island in search of its most peaceful beaches? You can do so by renting a vehicle at Olbia Airport and organizing your Sardinia tour starting right here, with the Li Junchi Beach, also known as Badesi Beach, particularly loved for water sports such as surfing and windsurfing.
