Sardinia is known for its paradise-like beach destinations, but the island has so much more to offer. Here, nature still reigns as the true protagonist, with wild landscapes that evoke an ancient world far removed from the rush of daily life. What do you need to dive into this timeless journey? Just a car or a motorbike to enjoy the spectacular scenic roads of Sardinia.
Let’s begin!
The best itineraries in Sardinia
In this article, we won’t talk about beaches or the must-see inland destinations. Today we want to focus on something else that will make your holiday in Sardinia unforgettable: the scenic roads to explore by car or motorbike.
We’ve selected 5 for you:
- the Cagliari – Villasimius coastal road
- the Old Orientale Sarda 125 – Campu Omu section
- the Fontanamare – Nebida – Masua panoramic road
- the Alghero – Bosa coastal road
- the Chia – Teulada scenic road
The Cagliari – Villasimius coastal road
The Cagliari – Villasimius coastal road is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful scenic routes on the island. Along this stretch of the southern coast, you’ll find both famous beaches and many lesser-known coves that are equally captivating. One of its most striking features is the intensity of the colours: the vibrant green of the Mediterranean scrub and the deep cobalt blue of the sea.
Along the way, you’ll find various viewpoints where you can stop to admire the scenery and reconnect with nature. We suggest driving it again at sunset to enjoy the warm colours of the sun disappearing behind the mountains.
The Old Orientale Sarda 125 – Campu Omu section
A short distance from the Cagliari – Villasimius road lies the Old Orientale Sarda 125, Campu Omu section, specifically the stretch between San Gregorio and San Priamo. Over approximately 27 km of straights and sharp bends, you’ll be surrounded by nuraghi, mountains, valleys, streams and dense vegetation.
If you love winding roads, this route is perfect for you. Here you can also admire the “Campu Omu” canyon carved into the granite rock.
The Fontanamare – Nebida – Masua panoramic road
Fontanamare, Nebida and Masua are three small coastal villages connected by about 8 km of road along the dramatic cliffs of south-western Sardinia. Once again, nature takes centre stage.
The first stop is the Fontanamare beach, followed by curves overlooking the sea. After passing Nebida, you’ll find yourself facing a breathtaking sight: the dramatic view of the 100-metre-high Pan di Zucchero rock. You will then reach Masua, where you can stop at the beach for a view of the Pan di Zucchero sea stack.

The Alghero – Bosa coastal road
The Alghero – Bosa coastal road is a favourite among motorcyclists. A succession of curves and short straights overlooking the stunning north-western coastline. Once you reach the town of Bosa, you’ll be welcomed by colourful houses lining the banks of the Temo River. This charming town has a delightful historic centre and is considered a must-see stop for those exploring the north of the island.
Continuing towards Alghero, the Capo Caccia promontory will follow you in the distance, creating gorgeous scenic views.
The Chia – Teulada scenic road
Finally, the SP 71 Chia – Teulada scenic road on the island’s south-western coast. Around 25 km of pure beauty with white-sand beaches, small coves, rolling roads, trails and paths running along the sea.
We recommend driving it between September and October when traffic is lighter than in peak summer months, so you can enjoy this slice of paradise with more tranquillity.
